Privacy Policy

The short version

Newspapers.ai does not require an account, does not ask for your name or email to read the news, and does not sell or share your personal information with anyone. We do not track you across other apps or websites, and we show no advertising.

This policy covers both the https://newspapers.ai website and the Newspapers.ai app for iPhone.

Newspapers.ai for iPhone

The app is free, has no accounts, no advertising and no in-app purchases. Here is everything it handles.

Stored only on your device

• Saved articles. Headlines you bookmark, kept on your iPhone so they can be read offline. They are never uploaded to us.
• Your publisher selections. The outlets you pick for My Feed.
• Recently downloaded headlines. A local cache so the app opens instantly and still works without a signal.
• Your settings, such as theme and notification preferences.

Deleting the app removes all of it. There is no copy on our servers to delete.

Sent to our servers

• A random app identifier. The app generates a random string on first launch. It is used only to keep any single copy of the app from overloading our API, and to recognise a repeat notification registration. It is not your device's ID, it is not Apple's advertising identifier, and it is not connected to your identity.
• A notification token, only if you turn notifications on. Issued by Apple, used solely to deliver breaking-news alerts. Turning notifications off stops its use, and we retire tokens that Apple reports as no longer valid.
• The categories you want alerts about, and your time zone, so we do not wake you in the middle of the night.
• Ordinary request information such as your IP address, which our web server logs for security and abuse prevention, as any web server does.

What we never collect: your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, precise location, health data, or a list of the individual articles you read.

Reading an article

Article headlines and summaries come from publishers' own public feeds. Tapping a story opens the publisher's website in Apple's in-app browser. Once you are there you are on the publisher's site, and their privacy policy and cookies apply, not ours. We do not host or republish full articles.

Notifications

Breaking-news alerts are opt-in. iOS asks your permission first, and you can revoke it at any time in the app's settings or in iOS Settings. We send an alert only when several independent publishers report the same story at once, we send at most a few a day, and we do not send marketing or promotional notifications.

The website

The https://newspapers.ai website works without an account. When you build a custom feed, your publisher choices are stored in a cookie in your own browser so the site can show you your selections on your next visit; that cookie holds nothing but the publisher names you picked, and clearing your custom feed or your browser data removes it.

The website uses HitCounters, our own self-hosted analytics, to count page views and understand which sections are read. It records aggregate usage, not personal profiles, and it is not used to track you across other websites. The iPhone app contains no analytics at all.

The website is served through Cloudflare, which processes requests to protect the site against attacks and abuse.

Children

Newspapers.ai is a general-audience news service and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your choices

• Turn breaking-news notifications off at any time, in the app or in iOS Settings.
• Clear saved articles, cached headlines and publisher selections from the app's settings screen.
• Delete the app to remove everything it stored on your device.
• Clear your custom feed, or your browser cookies, to reset the website.

Because we do not hold an account for you, there is generally no personal profile for us to look up, export or erase. If you believe we hold information about you and want it removed, write to us and we will help.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top of this page, and — where the change affects the app — describe it in the release notes of the update that introduces it.
